Congratulations on becoming a Dad!

Most say that it is one of the most life re-shaping events of their lives, although they didn’t realise it at the time!

Our hope is to encourage as many Dads to Be to engage with becoming a Dad in their own unique way and to be as practically prepared for the birth and beyond as they can.

Dads to Be Workshops

In order to engage well with this amazing event and to be informed and ready to help alongside your partner, we would encourage you to come to a first-time Dads to Be workshop in one of the hospitals. We have been running them for over ten years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who are they for?

The workshops are for first time Dads to Be with about 45 Dads to Be attending each workshop.

They give a great opportunity to meet with other Dads to Be at a similar stage.

Who runs them?

They are run by a Dads to Be Facilitator and a Midwife Antenatal Educator.

How long is the Workshop?

They are a single one-off early evening event which runs for 90 minutes.

Ideally it is best to attend as soon as possible after your partner is three months into the pregnancy.

What makes them different from an ante-natal class?

They are not an antenatal class. However they cover the key parts of the birth process and the important time following the birth, but more from a partners involvement. Some of the practical topics covered include:

What is my role through the birth process?

Now that there are three - how does that affect us?

What are the signs that my partner may have postnatal depression?

Once home, how do we juggle; time, sleep, new roles, energy, money, sex, parents, work etc.?

A Dads to Be Participants Workbook and pen is given out for those wishing to take notes. These can then be taken away.

The Dads to Be are also encouraged to attend, with their partner, the ante-natal sessions at the hospital.

What do previous participants say?

‘Reading about birth is one thing but attending this workshop has been a great eye opener’

'A great place to be able to ask dumb questions!'

‘Great delivery – appreciated the humour and sensitivity’

‘The best pre-Dad advice I have had to date’

Feedback in 2019 found that 100% of the Participants would recommend the Workshop to Friends or Family.
